As I sat at a table, across from a big, grown man who was so moved by my words that he was nearly curling up in fetal position, I was impressed by what an impact tarot can make on others.
Tarot can comfort and confirm. And tarot can inspire you and blow you away. Tarot can rock your world.
Last weekend I read for a night market event called Brooklyn Night Bazaar in Williamsburg, and the experience was so great and rewarding. It reminded me why I love tarot so much.
So here are the things that tarot does, and the reasons why I love them:
1. Their symbols are full of wisdom:
When I’d picked up my first deck as a teenager from my neighborhood bookstore, I didn’t expect to learn as much as I did from the cards. They went deep!
My teacher Jacqueline DuBois calls tarot “Sacred Scripture”. The cards are symbolic representations of the universe. They contain the four elements, astrology, numerology, the tree of life from Kabbalah…
And Tarot can not only be used for divination (readings), but they can also be used for acquiring the wisdom of the universe through its study, and even for meditation.
2. There is always more to learn:
To extend on reason #1, what I also love about the cards is that you can go always go even deeper. There is always more to learn, just as there is always more to learn about life and this grand universe!
3. They tell you exactly what you need to hear at that moment:
When the cards are laid out, it is like a snapshot of you and your energies at that very moment, and they tell you a message for that particular time.
4. It is amazing to see them at work:
How do I know that the person sitting in front of me is interested in two women at once? Or that the person is in a conflict with an enemy? I don’t! I just read the cards and put faith in what I see when I relay the message, and astound myself and the client when I hear their confirmation. It really is something to marvel at. Sometimes while I’m speaking, in the back of my head I wonder, “Is this rubbish?”. It is incredible to find that it’s not!
Tarot, for me, is a life-long relationship; a love affair that has gotten serious. When I work with others, I am so happy to have an opportunity to work with the cards, and it really gets me off to be of service to them; to see how it has helped them on their life paths. And that is why I love tarot!
